Dementia & Alzheimer's

Understanding Dementia

Dementia is a general term for a decline in memory, thinking, communication, and the ability to manage everyday activities. It is not a specific disease, but a collection of symptoms that can result from different conditions affecting the brain. Dementia can change how a person remembers, communicates, behaves, and interacts with the world around them. With the right support, patience, and understanding, individuals living with dementia can continue to experience meaningful moments and maintain dignity in their daily lives.

Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia. It is a progressive brain disease that gradually affects memory, thinking, communication, and eventually a person's ability to carry out everyday tasks. While there is currently no cure, compassionate care can make an important difference in a person's quality of life. At YCIOP, we recognize that caring for someone with Alzheimer's is also about caring for the family—providing patience, reassurance, attentive supervision, and a safe environment where each person is treated with dignity and respect.
