Live-In
Live-In Care
Live-in care offers a different approach to around-the-clock support. Instead of rotating caregivers throughout the day, a caregiver lives in the client's home and provides care according to an agreed-upon daily schedule and service plan.
An important part of the live-in model is that the caregiver is not expected to remain actively working every minute of the 24-hour period. When the client is sleeping and does not require assistance, the caregiver has an opportunity to sleep, rest, and regroup as well. This allows the caregiver to recharge so they can continue providing attentive, compassionate support when the client is awake and needs assistance.
During waking hours, the caregiver may assist with personal care, meals, companionship, light housekeeping, mobility support, errands, and other approved activities of daily living. Overnight, the caregiver's ability to sleep and the expectations for responding to the client's needs should be clearly established in advance.
Live-in care may be a good fit when:
-
The client benefits from having a familiar caregiver in the home
-
Overnight needs are generally limited or predictable
-
The client does not require continuous hands-on care throughout the night
-
A consistent caregiver presence is preferred over multiple daily shift changes
Live-in care is different from 24/7 shift coverage. With 24/7 care, caregiver coverage is divided among scheduled shifts so that one caregiver is relieved by another. With live-in care, the caregiver remains in the home for an extended period while having designated time to sleep, rest, and attend to personal needs when the client is safely resting and does not require care.
